Airsoft equipment - where to start?
Starting airsoft does not require a major investment right away. Many events offer rental equipment, which lets you try different guns and gear before buying your own. If you decide to take airsoft more seriously, this is a short overview of the main equipment categories.
Gun (AEG / GBB / HPA)
AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) is the most common choice for beginners. It runs on a battery, is dependable, and easy to maintain. A solid AEG usually costs between 150 and 400 euros. Well-known brands include CYMA, G&G, Specna Arms, and Tokyo Marui.
GBB (Gas Blowback) provides a more realistic operating feel, but is more sensitive to weather and temperature. It is better suited to advanced players.
HPA (High Pressure Air) is a compressed-air system that offers excellent consistency and precision. It is mostly used by experienced players.
Eye and face protection
This is by far the most important piece of equipment. Full goggles or a mask that covers the eyes are mandatory. We recommend a full-face mask for CQB games and ballistic eye protection with lower-face protection for outdoor games.
Clothing and protective gear
Boots and gloves are strongly recommended. A tactical vest or plate carrier helps you carry gear efficiently. A BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) gives you camouflage benefits. The basic rule is simple: wear something you do not mind getting dirty.
Battery and charger
If you use an AEG, it is important to have a battery with enough capacity and a proper charger. LiPo batteries are more efficient but require a dedicated charger. NiMH batteries are a safer and cheaper alternative.
